3 works

This collection brings together three reproductions by Jean (Hans) Egger: two landscapes and a portrait. It offers a comparison of the role of gesture and colour across different subjects.

Jean Egger, also known as Hans Egger, was an Austrian painter born in Hüttenberg in 1897 who died in Klagenfurt in 1934. He studied at the Munich Academy, then lived mainly in Paris from 1925, where he painted portraits and landscapes among other subjects.

Three works to compare

The reproduction of Landscape by Jean Hans Egger presents vegetation crossed by yellows, reds, greens and blues. Trunks and branches mingle with curved brushstrokes in a vertical composition.

The reproduction of St Martin am Silberberg shows a slender church spire, trees and buildings on sloping ground. Diagonal lines and animated brushstrokes structure this village view.

The reproduction of the portrait of Signe Wallin focuses on a tilted face and a lowered gaze. Blue, green and ochre strokes enliven the outlines and background.
