Julius Paulsen, master of realism and atmosphere
Julius Paulsen, a Danish painter active at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century, is renowned for his skill in depicting genre scenes with subtle lighting and a great sensitivity to human attitudes. Influenced by realism and naturalist developments of his time, Paulsen mastered blending academic precision with impressionist freshness in his works. His compositions, often populated with interacting characters, engage with major European trends while asserting a personal touch, attentive to textures and shadow effects.
