An invitation to discover Ireland
Designed by Walter Till around 1925, See Ireland First is a travel poster published for the Irish Tourist Association in Dublin. Its slogan encourages travellers to choose Ireland as their destination, while the text below directs them to tourist and railway agents. The colour lithograph was printed by Hely’s Limited in Dublin.
Ireland revealed like a stage
At the right, a woman in a white dress and red shawl draws back a large green curtain. She reveals a bright landscape of lakes, fields and mountains, crossed by a road carrying a yellow motorcar. Two anglers and a train complete this celebration of travel and leisure.
A spectacular tourism composition
The unfurled “See Ireland First” banner crowns the image in green lettering. Blue sky, luminous meadows and the woman’s red shawl create a theatrical vision of the island, where modern transport meets the beauty of the Irish landscape.
