Tokaido gojusantsugi, plate 23: An invitation to emotion
The reproduction of Tokaido gojusantsugi, plate 23 immediately captures the eye with its subtle balance between sky, landscape, and human figures. The composition features a winding road bordered by hills and houses, where perspective invites the viewer to follow the travelers' journey. The delicate and contrasting tones, rendered by the original print, alternate deep blues, warm ochres, and touches of black ink, creating an atmosphere that is both serene and lively. The woodblock printing technique is hinted at in the finesse of the lines and the texture of the color fields; this art print reproduces the poetry of the line and the precision of the detail that make the charm of the Tokaido gojusantsugi, plate 23, and the traditional Japanese canvas.
