William Henry Margetson, master of the turn towards modernity
William Henry Margetson, an influential artist of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, successfully combined academic training with a taste for stylistic innovation. Inspired by Pre-Raphaelite sensibilities and developments in decorative painting, he developed a recognizable sense of portraiture and female figures characterized by elongated lines and meticulous finishes. Among his notable works are compositions that emphasize elegance and the tactile quality of fabrics. This La Promenade art print naturally fits into his body of work, demonstrating his talent for color harmony and visual poetry, while maintaining the finesse of execution that has earned his reputation.
