THE Bazaar of the saddle, Cairo (1883) by Jean-Léon Gérôme is much more than a simple work of art; It is a window open to the past. Painted in a context where expressionism emerged with force, Gérôme offers us a vibrant representation of Egyptian daily life, capturing the very essence of the Cairo market. The brilliant colors and meticulous details bear witness to his artistic skill and his careful observation of the world around him.
From its revelation, this play captivated the public, revealing the fascination of the time for orientalism.
