About C. laticaudae II
This historical plate depicts three fancy pigeons perched on wooden ledges. Their silhouettes are defined by numerous tail feathers held upright and spread into a fan.
Gustav Prütz’s fantail pigeon
In Illustrirtes Mustertauben-Buch, published in Hamburg from 1884 to 1886 with Christian Förster, Gustav Prütz classifies the fantail pigeon as C. laticauda. His text describes the rounded tail as the chief beauty of this old breed.
A pigeon-fancying plate
Grey, russet and dark plumage contrasts with the broad white tails. The image belongs to the tradition of illustrated handbooks devoted to pigeon breeding and its many varieties.
