Garden Corner, Villa Frémy – François-Louis Français
A pale path borders a dense bed of red and white flowers, broad leaves and succulent plants. A palm tree and tall flower spike rise above the composition, while blue-green foliage merges into a pale sky.
This watercolour by François-Louis Français is titled Coin de jardin, Villa Frémy. Signed and dated “Français 1881” at the lower left, it measures 53.3 × 40.6 cm. Sotheby’s offered the work in New York in 2021 as lot 243.
The inscription “Villa Frémy, Nice” is visible at the lower right. The place therefore belongs to both the title and subject of the work. Français is the artist’s surname: it remains unchanged in every language and must not be translated as a nationality adjective.

Canvas 100% polyester (285 g/m²), UV-resistant and solvent-free inks, safe for children and allergy sufferers. The canvases are mounted on a 2 cm thick wooden frame (4 cm for very large formats).
