Shen Zhou, master of the literati
Shen Zhou's art is rooted in the literati tradition of the Ming dynasty, where the painter-poet favored personal expression over academic representation. Influenced by the masters of the Song and Yuan dynasties, Shen Zhou revitalized landscape painting by blending poetry, calligraphy, and painting into a single sensitive vision. His famous works, often inspired by travels and gardens, convey a deep attention to emptiness and atmospheric transitions. This art print of The Distant View of Tiger Hill from the canal dock perfectly illustrates his taste for balanced compositions and the subtle dance of ink, making each reproduction a window into the mind of the scholar.
