About Autumn Landscape: Trees
George Clausen painted Autumn Landscape: Trees in 1889. This oil on canvas measures 40.8 × 30.5 cm and is signed, dated and inscribed to the printmaker Frank Short at lower right.
A landscape study in free brushwork
Dark trunks and masses of foliage stand against a vivid blue sky. Clausen builds the scene with visible, layered strokes: browns and greens in the woodland answer the broad blue accents threaded through the branches. The small scale and direct handling give the work the immediacy of a study painted from nature.
A work given to Frank Short
The inscription records that Clausen gave the canvas to Frank Short in 1889. It later passed through Abbott & Holder in London in 1975. In the 1980 touring exhibition devoted to Sir George Clausen, the work was shown as Landscape sketch.

Our frames measure 1.7 cm on each side. For a 40x60 cm painting, the total framed size is therefore 43.4 x 63.4 cm.
Canvas 100% polyester (285 g/m²), UV-resistant and solvent-free inks, safe for children and allergy sufferers. The canvases are mounted on a 2 cm thick wooden frame (4 cm for very large formats).
